Knotty Vines Wine Chardonnay 2018 in Review "Breakfast in Bed at 2pm. Waffles."

“Have you Kaplowitz’d to-day?”

Knotty Vines 2018 Chardonnay
by Rodney Strong Wine Estates

APPELLATION: Sonoma County

VARIETAL: Chardonnay
WINERY: Knotty Vines
ALCOHOL: 13.5%

Granny Smith apples | Nectarine | Pineapple

Buttery & prickly; prickly lasts longer. Effervescent but shy of quenching somehow. Smooth like sand which is really just rocks worn teeny-tiny. Mineral-y, then -- to the nose and mouth. Salty. The bouquet opens to include Granny Smith apples & nectarine. Eyeballs to a yellow topaz, crisply shy of lively-so. Laces the glass thinly-adequately.

Primaries taste to the tune of the schnoz + buttery oak. Prickly is the white pepper that spines tropical fruits (pineapple, mainly). All this plays on the rocks on an ocean shoreline. The waves come in, the waves go to, the worms play pinochle on your snout. Slow building. Hypnotic. Then something shy of crescendo. A bit flat but quite drinkable.

Not super complex. Above-average nuance particularly given its lightness. The selling point is balance. Roundness. An easy delivery. An interesting zingy velvet finish of surprisingly long legs. The aroma takes some acquiring unless you're minerally-inclined. The rest of it is easy like a Sunday Morning white linen breakfast in bed at 2pm. Waffles.
